Meeting of Restoration Agency and Business Ombudsman Council with EBA member companies

Transparent conditions and rules of a reconstruction “game” and clear tender procedures with them are the basis for ensuring Ukraine’s fastest possible reconstruction from the consequences of russian aggression. This issue, as well as practical aspects of construction and engineering companies participation, particularly with foreign investment, were discussed yesterday during the meeting of the Business Ombudsman Council, the Restoration Agency and the European Business Association member companies’ representatives.

Considering the fact that reconstruction tenders in the regions, as well as the Agency’s cooperation with the Business Ombudsman Council already got underway  such a meeting opened horizons for EBA member companies to familiarize themselves with the Agency’s activities and its plans. During the meeting, constraints and difficulties that companies face when participating in procurement were also discussed.

The meeting was opened by Roman Waschuk, the Business Ombudsman of Ukraine and Valeriia Ivanova, the Deputy Head of the Restoration Agency. From the European Business Association, Svitlana Mykhaylovska, the EBA Deputy Director for representing the interests of member companies and, the Head of department Viktoriia Kulikova, as well as over 30 EBA member companies’ representatives joined the meeting. The event was moderated by Tetiana Korotka, the Deputy Business Ombudsman of Ukraine.

Oleksandr Nakhod, the Head of the Restoration Agency procurement system development project, presented the Agency’s developments, ongoing recovery projects and outlined the upcoming areas of work.

The Agency’s representatives urged businesses to actively participate in tenders, as the public procurement market would grow, so it was a good opportunity to join the recovery of the country at its launch.

For its part, the Agency works to ensure that all tenders are as transparent as possible (information about cost estimates, photos, reports, etc. are open). In addition, before that, work was in progress to remove discriminatory norms in tender documents, and similar work related to project documentation was currently underway.
At the same time, if business representatives had proposals in that regard, the Agency called on companies to share them through the Association or the Business Ombudsman.

Lastly, the Business Ombudsman Council reminded companies that, by becoming part of the recovery process, they could rely on its independent support and mediation in the event of abuses by public authorities.
