Investigator (Lawyer)

The Business Ombudsman Council is looking for candidates for the position of Investigator (Lawyer)

Who we are
The Business Ombudsman Council (BOC) is an international technical assistance project established with the participation of the EBRD, OECD, leading Ukrainian business associations, and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, and implemented with the financial support of the EBRD. We consider business complaints against state authorities at all levels and contribute to identifying and implementing systemic solutions to improve the business climate.

Key requirements

  • Law degree;
  • High ethical and professional standards;
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in at least one of the following areas: tax law, customs law, administrative law, or criminal law and procedure;
  • Experience in protecting the interests of business entities through pre-trial (administrative) appeal of decisions of state authorities and/or in court;
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex legal, commercial, and financial information;
  • Significant experience in drafting legal documents (legal opinions, complaints, statements of claim, procedural documents, etc.);
  • Ability to independently manage one’s workload, delegate tasks, and provide constructive feedback;
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills;
  • Full professional proficiency in Ukrainian (spoken and written);
  • English proficiency at C1–C2 level;
  • The following will be considered an advantage: experience in international law and consulting firms; project management experience in legal consulting; experience interacting with BOC stakeholders.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Reviewing and handling individual business complaints regarding violations of their rights by public authorities;
  • Analyzing laws, by-laws, and case-law;
  • Analyzing documentation provided by complainants;
  • Preparing letters, legal opinions, reports, and other documents;
  • Liaising with complainants and state authorities (as well as local self-government bodies) during complaint review;
  • Participating in administrative appeal procedures and working groups with state authorities;
  • Preparing systemic reports and investigation reports based on the results of one’s own investigations.
